2. Fear Eats the Soul: a Journey through Horror Cinema (90 min)
12-1:30pm
"Horror cinema has been unfairly categorized in the collective cinephile consciousness as an inferior genre. This is because we tend to forget that many major filmmakers made horror films at some point in their career. Horror creates fear, the harshest and purest feeling. It confronts its spectators to their reality, to the world that surrounds them. Filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe will take us on a journey through the evolution of horror cinema, its socio-political influence on Cinema and on the world."
Speaker
- Alexandre O. Philippe, Swiss filmmaker
Moderator
- Mike Hostench, Co-Director of SITGES Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya
3. How to Save our Film Heritage From Disappearing (120 min)
3-5pm
"For a long period of time, almost no one in the Arab world cared much about the preservation of films. Many classic Arab movies have disappeared, others are in bad conditions. As governments haven’t offered much to save our cinematic heritage, private institutions and individuals stepped forward taking on their shoulders this important and tedious responsibility. What are these initiatives and how can we grow stronger together? Key persons from the local film industry engage in a dialogue with restoration expert Serge Bromberg and Gerald Duchaussoy from Cannes Classics to discuss essential initiatives that could allow modern audiences to discover or rediscover forgotten masterpieces."
