The mission of the Television department is to prepare competent professionals in the field through a high-quality education. The program aims to educate students in the fundamental concepts, knowledge and techniques that will foster their ability for individual research and self-reflection. In addition, students will develop essential teamwork, creative, innovation and analytical skills. In this program, students acquire the flexibility to master diverse creative techniques thus facilitating their entry into and excellence in the various professional areas of television.
By fostering critical thinking skills, as well as technical and practical competence, this program primes students for advancement in the ever-changing and developing field of television.

1. Providing the students with a historical, conceptual and analytical background in various fields of arts and television.
2. Developing the student’s knowledge and know-how in the various fields of television.
3. Stimulating the student’s reflexive, critical and creative approach to television.
4. Developing the student’s personal and interpersonal skills.
5. Preparing the student to pursue a career in television or a specialized master’s degree.

By the end of this program, the student should be able to:

1. Analyze the different types of television programs and the evolution of form and content.
2. Conduct research for any television program or creation (journalistic, formal, artistic and technical).
3. Apply the rules of narrative structure and character development.
4. Apply the rules for structuring and developing a TV program.
5. Identify the technical means and necessary resources for each program or creation.
6. Identify the aesthetic makeup of a program (stage set, graphics, lighting, look and feel).
7. Direct single camera reports, documentaries and miniseries.
8. Direct on-set programs using a multi camera setup (maximum of 4 cameras).
9. Compose a production guide with all relevant components.
10. Explain and clarify vision and needs to the production team and communicate with various different parties.
11. Follow up on current affairs (social, political, economic) and new creations in all artistic and audio-visual fields
12. Adopt a critical and analytical approach to the world, his/her work and the work of others.
13. Develop the ability to work in various languages based on market needs.

Credit system
The credit system adopted is the European system ECTS: one credit represents 25 to 30 hours per semester. These hours include attendance, personal effort, practical activities and exams.

The Semester
The academic year is divided into two semesters, fall and spring. There is no summer session.

Admission’s Criteria
The admission criteria are: Holding a Lebanese Baccalaureate or a recognized equivalent. The students will also undergo an entrance exam, English and drawing, and an interview with the Admission Committee of the Department.
Students in possession of a minimum of: 197 in TOEFL (Computer-Based) or 527 in TOEFL (Paper and Pencil) or 71 in TOEFL (iBT) or 22 in SAT (English writing section) or 5.5 in IELTS will be exempted from the English exam.

Change of Major
All changes of major are subject to study and must be approved by the receiving department and the Admission Committee. Students are admitted after an examination of their file and an interview with the Admission Committee
of the Department.

Credit Load
Students may register up to 36 ECTS credits in a semester, but may not register less than 15 ECTS credits.

Prerequisites and Co-requisites
“Prerequisite” means the preparation or previous course work considered necessary for success in the course.
Where applicable, students will not be able to register a course if they do not meet its prerequisites.
“Co-requisites” for a course are those courses which must be taken concurrently with the course.

Academic Advising
Every new student of the Department of Television will be assigned an advisor.
The advisor helps the students with registration and provides them with career guidance.

A student should see his advisor:
- To register courses during the pre-registration period.
- For questions in relation to the program of study.
- For academic problems.

Passing Grades
The passing grade for the BFA courses is 60 over 100 and for the MFA courses 70 over 100.

Repeating courses
A student may repeat a course only once to achieve its required grade.

Averages
Four averages are calculated for a student and they are: the Semester Major Average, the Semester General Average, the Cumulative Major Average and the Cumulative General Average.

Incomplete Grades and Make-up Examinations
Course work must be completed by the date on which the semester ends. In exceptional cases, and with the approval of the instructor, the head of the department, and the Director of the School, a student may be allowed to make up incomplete work within a period of one month after the end of the current semester. The time and date of make-up tests will be set by the instructor concerned with due consideration for the student’s schedule.

Probation
A student is placed on probation if:
His/her Cumulative General Average for the BFA is below 67 or if his/her Cumulative Major Average is below 70.
his/her Cumulative General Average for the MFA is below 77 or if his/her Cumulative Major Average is below 80.
He/she can then register for only 24 ECTS credits, from which 18 ECTS credits are for Major courses. He/she should also repeat failed courses as soon as they are offered. A student receiving three probations is dropped from the Department.

Students are advised to check, by themselves and with their respective advisors, that all graduation requirements are fulfilled. Failure to do so may mean a longer period is needed to complete graduation requirements. To graduate with a BFA degree, a student must complete the following: 

To meet the minimum residency requirement for the BFA degree, a student must register and be in residence as an undergraduate student for at least six semesters. All requirements for the BFA degree must be completed within a period of five years after admission to undergraduate study. Extension beyond the maximum allowed period of study requires the approval of the Dean of Alba.

A minimum of 180 ECTS credits is required.

Academic performance required

A cumulative major average of 70 or above.

A passing grade in all courses.

A cumulative general average of 70 or above.

A student achieving a cumulative average of 90 or above will receive his BFA degree with High Distinction.

A student achieving a cumulative average of 85 or above will receive his BFA degree with Distinction.

To obtain a Bachelor’s degree, each student must choose a TV format for a capstone project that he/she writes,

produces and directs.

Suggested formats include: report, mini-series and episode set with 4 cameras.

The project is undertaken by the student, overseen by a professor and is comprised of:

- Topic selection, script writing, pre-production file compilation.

- Presentation of the script and pre-production file in front of the School jury.

At the end of the semester, the stage of production of the projects is completed in groups of 5 to 6 students each.

Each student must hold each technical position by rotation.

The school jury, presided by a representative of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, will determine the validation of the credits.

A minimum grade of 70/100 is required.

In case of failure, the student has to present a new project during the upcoming session.
