About the Talks :
His name was Abdallah Lahoud.
When his plane crashed in Iraq in 2011, the 37-year-old man was snatched from his family. He had a bright future ahead of him. Unfortunately, fate has decided otherwise.
It is to keep their son's memory alive that Youssef and Mona Lahoud have decided in 2013 to create a Foundation named after him. They have done so with the help of their family and friends. This Foundation has been established to honor both their late son and his grandfather (Abdallah, the father of Youssef Lahoud who was a successful lawyer and a literary figure).
This Foundation's mission is to "encourage young Lebanese people to pursue their creative ideas and their entrepreneurial talents". It aims to inspire them to be highly motivated. It also seeks to nurture their willingness to work hard and build their spirit so they can keep up their hopes in life and their country....
For this purpose, the Foundation has chosen Alba as a platform for carrying out its mission by funding one of the auditoriums of the Academy's new buildings. Thus, its commitment to contributing to education as an essential vector for a sustainable entrepreneurship has been confirmed.
As part of the upcoming joint activities between the Foundation and Alba, we are pleased to announce a series of screenings and conferences of the films Zyara - Home of Ciné-Jam, directed by Muriel Aboulrouss. These documentaries focus on resilience and are aimed at a wide audience both inside and outside Alba. The screenings will take place every 2nd Thursday of the month at the Abdallah Lahoud Foundation auditorium based on a specific theme.
The screening will be followed by a talk between the director, the filmmakers and an NGO’s representative who will be assigned on behalf of the cause.
By doing so, Alba and the Abdallah Lahoud Foundation wish to offer Lebanese students and the Lebanese public as a whole a chance to exchange views on specific human issues. They will also provide them with the tools to tackle sensitive and even taboo subjects. This will help them highlight their resilience capacities and their exceptional work to overcome difficulties as well as their desire to progress and move on despite all odds.
Finally, the Abdallah Lahoud Foundation, Alba and Home of Ciné-Jam are strongly determined to send out a message of optimism.
